Hi Guys i recently oc'ed my processor to 2.33 GHz (I haven't tried anymore as my RAM is only 5300...Anyway I noticed that my CPU temp in coretemp is 51°C idle! Now I know that's way too hot, so I went into BIOS and then checked the temperature and the BIOS said 43°C! So my question is which reading is correct? Surely the BIOS cant be lying, but then again coretemp takes the reading from an on-die thermometer right? So which one should I believe, surely the temperature of the CPU cant go down from 51 idle to 43 just as I am resetting and going into BIOS can it?

EDIT: Oh yeah i forgot to mention tried Intel's TAT and its giving the same reading as coretemp...

thanks in advance

Cheers for the replies people. Im using my antec sonata and I ve got 2 fans in there (1 120mm one that comes with the case, blowing air out, and one 92MM Amber blowing cold air in.) Im using the stock CPU cooler, is there anything I can do to reduce temperatures in the mean time without having to buy a new cooler?

Your attempting to overclock using a stock cooler, enough said really - maybe in a decent case with good airflow but not a Sonata for certain.

Just get a freezer pro.

Thanks.....

Thanks Jokester, although I do believe that coretemp was giving the correct temperature readings before? never mind, I will just have to try and improve airflow and get a new cooler then
