I'm getting what looks like CPU spikes in bf4. I notice when these appear the screen freezes for a second and can happen multiple times.

See pic in spoiler.

Set up is:
Asus M5A97 Evo r2.0
AMD 8320 OC to 4.0GHz
Sandisk 128GB SSD
Thermis CPU cooler
Gigabyte windforce GPU 280X
Superflower golden green 650W PSU

Anyone know what the issue could be here?

battlefield games are notoriously bad for this sort of thing, I remember I had similar issues with bF3 and the only way I could fix it was with reinstalling the OS.

I can only see it in BF4 because of the graph. Got problems in Rome 2 but I think that is related to the gfx card.

Just recorded that trying to upload it now. Multiple maps at random times can;t pin down at the moment when exactly it happens. Can't believe how bad BF4 is running at the moment.

Re-installing now.

Get this in bf4 a lot too, the only situation where I don't see it is with adaptive vsync set, or use lower settings. The latter seems odd as 780 sli is more than enough fir this game at my res of 1920x1200 on max settings. CPU @4.7ghz.

I am experiencing the same periodic cpu spikes issue in Battlefield 3 aswell. This is the first time such spikes have occured. Could this issue be on the EA's side?

It could be a server/cinnection issue. As sometimes when I get large spikes they correspond with the packet loss icon on the top right of the screen. My ping also shoots up at this point.

As above, could well be an internet issue. I did have something similar with my AMD machine after moving from an older intel setup without reinstalling windows. Have you changed motherboards recently?

You could well be right with this one as my net has been acting a little strange lately. Might have to put a call into ISP again for them to check it again.

Cheers

I have done quite a few and usually it's under 20ms closer to 10ms so I was assuming it was spiking rather than constantly running at a bad ping.

When it does start spiking in BF4 I'm going to try the speed test then see if it picks it up.

The youtube videos for rome 2 gameplay below, although I am thinking this is a gfx problem rather than CPU.

Probably sound like a broken record but I agree with the posts above.. Best way is to just try them all though.. Can never be too safe!

Reinstall bf4, test your ping (could be the servers though and not your PC) and then see how it runs :)

Do you have the latest drivers for your gpu? Could be that also :)
