My system died and i had the motherboard replaced the other day to which i originally put in my old CPU only to get problems so bought a new CPU and now i am back to having the same problem as i originally had even with the new CPU on the new motherboard.

My question is, were my CPU faulty could it take out a motherboard? My new motherboard worked to a certain extent when i installed my at the time current CPU but having then found faults i then left my system till i got a new one and then upon install the new CPU it is no longer posting.

Tried everything possible including running things bare, run individual ram and in various slots, bios restting from battery and shorting pin on motherboard, swapping graphics card and PSU.......etc.

Does(or did) the system power on with the old cpu?

what is your system specs?

CPU's don't tend to kill motherboards but it does happen on the rare occasion.

It's extremely unlikely that a CPU would become faulty. They are very versatile components.

It will be one of your other components. Test the PSU and memory and then run it barebone (out of the case) and do a process of elimination.

The system is an Athlon II X2 (Previously AM3 phenom II x2), 4gb of ddr2 ram, gtx460 1gb and a OCZ 500w PSU.

The system previously powered on but i would get no display from my graphics card nor would it POST so i tested it all barebones swapping out parts where i had spares kicking about but it didn't help. I rma'd my motherboard and when i got the new one (Now with onboard video this time)i set it all up and it posted just fine but i was getting constant restarts when trying to load up from the windows 7 disc and also when i was in the bios screen.

Again i ran bare bones with just the CPU, memory connected along with 4pin and 24 pin connectors with no luck so stopped for a few days till i got an Athlon II X2 to try and now i am back to getting no display and no posting whether it be a display ir beeps.

Basically with a new motherboard, new cpu along with a PSU and Graphcs card that are under a year old maybe even less than 8 months old i still can't post.

I recently had a CPU kill 2 Motherboards:mad: so it can happen but it is unlikely. However CPUs dying are quite rare but if everything else has been ruled out then it has to be the cause

Try running it outside the case too, to rule out anything touching the motherboard and shorting it out. Unless thats what you mean when you say 'bare'

That's what i meant when i said bare i.e. outside case with enough parts and cables connected to boot up into bios where by i could then install other parts one by one till i either found my problem or could get to installing windows.
