Budget is £550, used for gaming and general stuff, web, word, movies..

My mate was thinking of this and this monitor?

I'm happy to build one from scratch, can he get better?

I'm out of touch but self build has always been best in the past

Not sure on the PC front but for a Screen I recommend the Dell 2209WA.

I changed the build as i never added a graphics lol, With that you can add a quad core or you can add larger hdd

Yes i agree change the 4870 to a 5770 and your friend has got a good dx11 system for the next couple of years.
