Can hear graphics card through front headphone jack

Hey guys,

I just built my computer, and all works perfectly, apart from one annoying issue. When plugging my headset into the front headphone port, I can hear sound, and during normal use it sounds great, however when I start a game (or any program that requires the fans on the graphics card to kick in), I can hear the whiny fan noise through my headphones! This is very strange. Everythying seems to be connected correctly. The USB ports and the mic port on the front of the PC work fine, just this one annoying issue with the headphone port.

If I plug the headphones into the back of the PC (into the port where the speakers are connected), then the issue goes away.

So you know, my motherboard is an Asus P5QL Pro, and graphics card GTX260, and I am using onboard sound.

Any help appreciated,

Simon

It's probably electromagnetic interference. It's a good sign that you can't hear it out the back. If you're lucky, better shielding on the cable to the front panel might help.

Edit: can you do anything to route the cable away from the graphics card?

Having said that, if the interference is affecting the motherboard rather than the cable, you'll be scuppered.
