I have a linx 8 tablet and an old xp machine that i use as a media center with lots of music and videos stored, Isit possible to somehow access these files from my linx 8 without having to keep copying files over manually?

Providing the XP machine is on your home network it should just be a case of sharing your media folders. Having said that I wouldn't really want to put an XP machine on any network nowadays :p

My xp machine connects to my bt home hub as my other pc's. I think i have found out how to turn file sharing on but how do i get the files up on another pc?

If you've shared the folder you want on the XP machine then you'd go into Windows File Explorer on the tablet and under Network in the left hand tree menu you'd click on whatever name your XP machine is and then drill down through the folders to the folder that you shared. You should check that you've given all the computers on the network the same Workgroup name as the default name didn't stay consistent between different versions of Windows.

Wow it worked, i had no idea it was that easy! this is actually awesome its made my day lol

My only concern is my BT home hub has bt fon active ( that thing BT set to other people can use your hub as a hot spot) can anybody confirm that this is indeed separate from my main password protected connection and that if somebody connects to fon they can't accese my shared folders?

Finaly no biggie but isit possible to set which devices can access shared folders on the network?
