Can I bodge job the overflow of a water softener?

So our water softener decided to pack up on us over the weekend. I striped it down but discovered the issue was the filter had given away at the bottom of water pick up tube, meaning the machine had picked up resin and become blocked. The machine is old (Tapworks AD10) and I can't find a replacement part, so time to buy a new machine.

I'm eyeing up a BWT machine from Amazon, but the overflow is a 3/4 push fit elbow. Rather than having to drill a bigger hole, I was thinking of getting a 3/4 push fit to barb adapter, then running a flexible tube through the hole already present.

Would there be an issue with this, considering the overflow will be low pressure? I tend to find the venturi that fills water into the brine tank isn't exactly high flow either.
