Can I boot a VMFusion VM from a USB?

I'm currently using a rMBP with the pre-installed 128GB SSD. Storage has been mostly fine (as I don't really need to carry around any large files on my laptop), but I do have one issue. I need to use a virtual machine to install Windows for just one application, and that can obviously eat into a lot of my space.

To alleviate some of this space to free up some memory on my SSD, I was thinking about buying a ~64GB USB stick and using it as a boot drive for Windows.

If anyone is familiar with VMware Fusion; can this be done? It seems to be the most cost-effective storage upgrade, as I don't really wanna have to carry around an external HDD, or upgrade my SSD.

Thanks
