I was looking to buy a personalised plate for my Dad’s birthday.Checked on the MOT section on the GOV website and it was on a vehicle which had its last MOT in 2015. 99.999% likely it’s was SORN’d within the year.

It it’s of a standard two letters two numbers three letters.

Will it be released and if so when?

Try and get hold of the current owner? I tried to get my old plate back and even emailed the dvla. I was told that the car even though it’s untaxed and has no mot, it still is registered so there is no way they can release the registration

Was there no alternative on the DVLA plates site? https://dvlaregistrations.dvla.gov.uk/

Probably best finding an alternative registration unless you can buy it off the owner.

You can request registrations be added to the dvla auction with this form, If the car ends up scrapped you could use this to get it added into an upcoming auction but be warned its a slow process usually 4-6months between request and auction.

I thought registrations assigned to a car from new couldn't be transferred?
