Can I change paste on my Asus Strix? Will it void my warranty? Strange temperature behavior.

Hey, my card (1080Ti ASUS Strix) is running pretty hot. It's nowhere near 60 degrees which I saw on reviews. It's actually overheating on stock fan curve. Card on stock fan curve will reach 85 degrees and game will crash due to overheating, after setting fan speed to 50% same thing. If I set fan speed to 65% card will get pretty loud but it won't exceed 70 degrees. Also card get's hot insanely fast. After launching games it literally instantly goes from 40 degrees to 63 (in 2-3 seconds, just like Kaby Lake CPUs) and stays there for the rest of the game. Also if card will hit 80 degrees because I forget to set the fan speed it's really hard to lower that temperature later, even after setting fan speed to 80% it just doesn't want to drop and I have to minimalize the game so it can cool itself a little. I just can't understand this behavior. Can there be poor contact between die and heatsink or the paste is dry? Any ideas? I would change the paste myself but I'm not sure if they will void my warranty in EU if I remove the sticker.

Ah and before you will start hating on my case, it's NZXT S340 with 4 fans running at 1300RPM but even with side panel taken off the card will still hit that 85 degrees on stock fan curve. It's not a big issue, on 65% it's stays around 65-70 degrees at full loud but it's just loud...

Take a look at the first thread in the graphics card forum.

How old is the GPU? I wouldn't expect the paste to go bad that quick. If has always been like that, then sure fresh good paste would improve it. Also make sure the fins aren't clogged with dust. May happens.

If csgo is causing overheating then something is wrong and a repaste might help.

Knowing asus they'd definitely use anything to excuse not honouring warranty. So I'd avoid tampering with the sticker by using some needle nose pliers to grip the edge of the warranty screw and undo it that way. If you want to be extra careful stick insulation tape around the teeth of the pliers so they don't scratch the screw.

Yes it is
Don't tamper with the card if its under warranty. If you bought the card from OCUK raise a ticket in the customer service forum and OCUK will take care of it. If you didn't get it from OCUK then you will have to feal with Asus direct (most retailers will direct you to the manufacturers after 6 months) so good luck with facing up to Asus legendary customer services.

Is it really that bad? I heard some sad stories about it but I'm pretty sure there are stories like that with every manufacter (maybe except EVGA).

Sure there are going to be times when any company is going to mess up and it doesn't help that Asus are probably the biggest GPU partner but from experience and what people have said turn around times are poor. Once you get them to agree to accept the return (a mission in itself) your looking at 30 days for them to process your card and repair/replace it.

Well I never had any problems with ASUS GPU yet (had 4 Strix cards) and I like their design so it's usually my ''go for'' brand after EVGA. I was looking for 1080Ti SC2 or FTW3 but coudn't find any so I went with asus/
