I have standard AV subwoofer with phono in and i'm trying to connect it directly to the sound card and not through an AV amp.
I know the orange socket on my X-fi is supposed to be the center and subwoofer.
So i got a 3.5mm to stereo phono cable and plugged it into the orange socket and the other end (trying both ends) into the subwoofer.
But i'm not getting anywhere.
Is it possible to do?

A sub feed from an AV amp is just the lowest frequencies, so as long as your sound card is outputting the same signal then it should work. Is the software set up to include the sub channel, and do you have the auto-signal sensing switched off at the sub to make sure the sub is always on whilst you are experimenting. Have you got the volume up enough to hear the sound on both the PC and the sub?

What happens to the sub if you plug in the phono then hold the pin of the jack plug in your fingers shorting the terminals? [You should turn the subs vol control down for this because if the sub is working it will emit a load buzzing noise]

It's possible, test out your sub with another source if you can.
