Can I create my own super modem ?

Hi no idea if this is possible or exist, but was wondering can I build my own Modem with something like pfsense live cd and mini-itx pc, and combine it to work like a storage or nas ?

Was wondering if something like this already existed on the market ?

Reason I want to do this is my tomato Asus RT-N16 modem is to slow and its cpu can only push out 8meg per sec via OpenVPN.

Any ideas is appreciated thx

Yes meant Router, has anyone tried it before or might there already be such a product that acts like a Nas with router capabilities ?

Xpenology looks interesting will look into it, does anyone know if synology offer such a feature to make its nas act as a router also ?

It's good fun, and even a small Atom box or similar will provide way more processing power than anything you can buy. Go for a CPU with AES-NI instructions and you'll get virtually nil CPU overhead for OpenVPN's AES encryption/decryption. It's something I've played with myself, there are plenty of guides on Google to get you started.

I see a few guys around the net a few synology nas owners with dual ethernets asking how to turn there nas into a super router or add firewall/internet duties, so am not alone in my weird thinking !
