Hi all :)

I havent upgraded my pc in yonks and to be honest wasnt wanting to either, but I now do a fair bit of video editing and movie producing, and with the demands of modern softwares my pc is struggling to keep pace :(

I was wondering if I could do a simple cpu & mobo upgrade to get some more speed out of my pc. Prob is I know nothing about these modern cpus and whats best, let alone what mobos go with what cpu

My pc is as follows:
Xp2800+ cpu
Abit NF7S
1gb of ram (333 I think)
agp video card nvidia 6800le.
3 ide hdds

I want to keep my ram and video card cos I cant seee the point in replacing them for no reason, I dont play games on my pc.

I need firewire and sound on my mobo, and usb ports etc..

Looking to spend around £100, is that possible? or nearest.

Any help appreciated :)

Hard but you could do the following allowing you to keep the AGP card, but you'll need to replace the RAM to......

I thought the motherboard was compatible up to DDR400 ram? My mistake if its not :p

He did say he wanted to keep his RAM :)

Thanks m8, just lookin thru those bits now :)

And this would be a nice speed increase from my 2800?
That intel cpu is only 1.6Ghz...Is it still faster than my 2800?

Sorry, not up on how the current cpus relate :o

Mick

Edit bit: Just thought, will I need a new psu for this mobo? Current is a Enermax EG365AX (atx)

Nope sorry my mistake it will support 333 and 266 ram to...

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=4CoreDual-VSTA&s=n

No need for new memory then... ;)

And yes the new CPU will be much better then your current one, it's not raw speed thats important.... ;) though pc superstores and the like would lead most people to think it is...
