Can I do better for circa £1k?

Have been researching this weekend for a new PC build, as the main house PC is long past it's sell by date - Athlon XP 2100 processor, AGP video - yeah, I know ... anyway I'm a bit out of touch with component specs now, as you might imagine.

The budget is around £1k although I would prefer cheaper if possible, and needs to include a good quality 24" monitor with HDMI and DVI, and a great set of speakers. I'd like good gaming performance, though max res/frames not essential, as I can always go with my Xbox.

Other than that I'd like a fast drive for the O/S (already have Windows 7 64 bit from work ready to install) and a larger media drive, and I like the Fractal Design case I've chosen.

Open season on anything else if you think I can improve on. Here's what I came up with;

  • Samsung P2450H 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor @189.99
  • Fractal Design Define R2 Midi Tower Case - Black Pearl @ 84.99
  • OCZ ModXStream Pro 500w Silent SLI Modular PSU @ 56.99
  • Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz (Clarkdale) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail @ 91.99
  • Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel @ 99.99
  • Gigabyte GA-H55-UD3H Intel H55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard @ 99.99
  • Western Digital VelociRaptor 150GB 10000RPM SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM @ 134.98
  • Western Digital Caviar Green 640GB SATA-II 64MB Cache - OEM @ 46.99
  • ZOTAC GT 240 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card @ 79.99
  • Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler @ 18.99
  • Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 Speaker System - Black @ 122.99

Grand total is £1061 inc. postage.

Just realised I haven't added a kb+mouse, so any recommendations there would be useful as well :)

Cheers for any input!

i have only added one fast h/d as you can split it like i have on my pc.

i have also left out a keyboard and mouse because they come down to personal preference.

The BenQ monitor doesn't have a HDMI port does it? Ideally want a monitor that I can hook the PC and the Xbox to at the same time, as I was looking closely at the BenQ initially.

Nice one, thanks.

One area that I'll admit to being completely baffled by, is the Graphics cards, and I have no real idea if the card I've picked is the best I can do for around the £80 mark.

I've noticed some Radeon 4850's for the same price on OC, would that be a better bet than the GT240 I've picked? Is there a good site which does direct comparisons?
