Got a spare router or two
DG834GT running dgteam firmware
Got a lan cable running downstairs to a switch connected to the tv and a pvr and blu-ray player
Laptop is sometimes used downstairs and gets a poor signal,it works but poor signal with occasional drops

Can i swap the switch for the router and use the wireless to connect to the lappy and plug the other devices in and expect it to work?I am thinking no but before i go to the effort of rearranging cables etc i thought i would ask
If it is not going to work can you recommend a device that will please, cheapest solution :D

I already do this with a DG834GT and it works fine. Give it a high ip address, turn off DHCP, set same SSID and authentication type but you can use a different channel if you want. On the main router change the DHCP range so it doesn't set anything else with the access point IP address.

Nice just what i wanted to hear, will give it a bash this afternoon :)

As mentioned just disable DHCP.

Personally I use discrete networks. One is called "Ben's Upstairs" and the other "Ben's Downstairs" so I always know which one is which.

I also assign different login IPs so as to avoid any confusion. 192.168.01 for downstairs and 192.168.0.2 for upstairs.
