OK, I recently moved from a Netgear wireless ADSL router (with AOL) to a wired router (with NTL Cable). I am getting my kids PSPs and the new Wii console for xmas, and I want them to be able to connect wirelessly to my network.

The question is can I in any way use my netgear adsl router as a wireless access point, or am I going to have to buy a new wireless access point?

Cheers in advance. :D

I didn't think I could do this because the netgear is an adsl router, and the WAN socket is the adsl variety, which means I can't stick an ethernet cable in it. The netgear router has an adsl wan port, and 4 ethernet LAN ports. My new wired router has an ethernet WAN port and 4 ethernet LAN ports.

Turn off DHCP on the Netgear. Then plug one of the LAN ports on the Cable router to one of the LAN ports on the Netgear

Don't forget to give it a static IP in the same range as the other router

Thanks - if this works then I'll be well pleased! :D

It will. I use a Netgear ADSL router simply as a wireless AP myself. Just to re-iterate what everyone's already said - give it an IP address on the same subnet as your existing network, disable DHCP on it and plug one of the internal ethernet ports into a ethernet port on your existing network.

How do I access the wireless router to check/change settings once I have plugged it into the wired router?

You just connect to its IP address.

For example, I have my cable modem plugged into my router which has IP 192.168.10.1. I then have my ADSL router set to 192.168.10.2 which is plugged into my other router. I can then access it via 192.168.10.2.
