Can I do this?

I have picked up a mining motherboard biostar BTC 250 with 1*x16 and 5 x1 slots.

Can I run I card in the x16 slot and 2/3 cards via x1 to x16 risers so I can multiseat .

Currently multiseating with fedora with 2 seats. On a different pc, I plan to give me and kids seat each

Will the cards work like this?.

Yes this will work, cards work over x1 PCIe lanes, they just have reduced bandwidth. I imagine it's enough for desktop use though, what's the purpose?

word, youtube, simple html games, nothing heavy.

Should be, the bandwidth of a 1x PCI-E 3.0 slot is roughly the same as an 4x AGP slot, and it's not like the GeForce4 Ti4600 ever struggled with MS Word

Why do you need extra video cards at all , as one good card can easily drive three displays (or more) not sure what diffdiff is ?
Cheap 2nd hand laptop for each (child) may be better ?

Because I can, already have a 2 seat set up, its easier to update 1 pc, cheaper. Just fancied doing more seats fotr the hell of it.
