Hello all I am looking for some advice on driving a DVI input monitor from a HDMI graphics card output.

The card is a Radeon 5850 extreme edition. The card comes with one DVI, one HDMI and one Display Port output. I would like to connect two monitors to it. My main monitor has DVI and VGA inputs and is 1680 x 1050. My auxiliary monitor only has VGA and is 1280 x 1024. My current plan is to connect the auxiliary to the DVI port via a DVI to VGA adaptor (which I already have) and to connect the main to the HDMI port via a HDMI to DVI adaptor.

HDMI to DVI adapters are much cheaper than HDMI to VGA or Display Port to anything but googling about HDMI and hdcp has left me confused. If I understand what I have read HDMI should be able to drive a DVI monitor directly but hdcp copy protection may prevent it from doing so or may nobble the resolution in some way.

I don't use this computer for blue ray videos I only use it for gaming (on one screen) and general purpose computing (internet browsing, spreadsheets etc) on two screens. Will I get away with the HDMI to DVI because my content isn't hdcp?
