Can i fit a Thermalright HR-05 IFX SLI on my southbridge between my 2 8800gtx cards?

Damn, that's a tight fit.

In theory, you could put some insulating tape on the one side of the SB heatsink to prevent it shorting.

Another in theory, you could bend the heatpipes a bit to move it so it wasn't touching. You'd have to be careful not to snap them though...

Yeah, i was thinking bout bending those pipes a little.

But this guy seems to have done it in the same thread:

Absolutely incorrect... the MCP is the southbridge. Check under BIOS and you'll find out that it DOES get blazing hot.

Also your 680i southbridge HR-05 mounts different than I had mine. I had two HR-05 SLIs on my 680i, and fit SLI 8800GTX also. Just couldn't fit an XFI along with them.

Think i've seen a similar set up but with the HR-05 SLI more square on to the cards meaning clearance isn't an issue.

I'll go and try to find a pic.

Incidentally, i used to have an EVGA 680i and can confirm that the southbridge get's rediculously hot.

Also the one i have ordered is the Thermalright HR-05 IFX SLI.
There seems to be two different ones. the Thermalright HR-05 IFX SLI & Thermalright HR-05 SLI

Maybe they updated the hr-5 to the IFX hr5 for this issue. it does say its sli compatible but it said that about the normal HR-5 sli aswell;)

Hmm yes. perhaps rotating the base a little more square would solve it, as long as the pipes dont get in the way of the mounting clip

Found pics of the 780i. Chip placement looks the same so i suspect it should fit as you can see in these pics:

Might be worth double checking this just to be sure! :)

These are supposedly a prototype 780i and retail 680i side by side. Hopefully you should be good to go!

If possible, when it's all set up (fingers crossed!) could you post some pictures and temp results?

A mate has another 680i board with two GTS' and I'd be really interested to see if this works.
