Can I Fit PSU Down?

Currently building a PC and I usually face PSU upwards but in this build the cpu 8pin power doesnt reach.

If I faced it down I can make it fit but is there any danger in PSU downwards?

As long as the fan receives ventilation, all good. Cases with PSU at bottom of case, with fan facing down, and with vents and a dust filter under it, is now the norm.

Thermaltake Chaser A31 has exactly that, if that's the case in question.

The only danger is if the dust filter doesn't get cleaned every couple of months or at least once a year, and prevents enough ventilation. Even then, a good PSU would probably be okay.

There is always people that will tell you which way to orientate them. Personally I do them facing down so it pulls clean air from under the case and vents out the back. Its also safer in my opinion as its very easy to drop a screw or a cable tie down the fan and into the PSU without noticing and poof when its powered on.

Nothing to worry much with plastic cable tie which can't really disappear inside PSU unless pushed there... electrically conductive screw is entirely different thing.

Thanks.. its not my case its a Kolink Aviator im building just now.

It has two intakes fans in front and one exhaust on rear so can I assume that is enough ventilation to mount down?

Also if you have watercooling and it leaks then it can leak straight down into the psu and cause a big bang and possibly fire. Having the fan pointing down makes that less likely ;)

Thanks for help, I flipped the PSU around which allowed me to hide a lot of the ugly cables. I also wrapped some black electrical tape around the multicoloured cables to hide it a bit more as most of the components/mobo are black. Looks a lot cleaner now :)

Just to run some tests and make sure its running smooth then install a nice blue led strip inside.

I have noticed a big difference working with cheaper parts in terms of building the PC. You really do get what you pay for lol.

I'd add a couple of thoughts in here...

Beware of carpet... Some cases are very close fitting between PSU and vent when facing down. If you have your PC sat on the floor on carpet there's a possibility that will be blocking or obstructing the intake.

I have dropped a screw into a PSU... But I just cleared any charge (PSU switched off then pressed power button multiple times) then turned it over and shook till it fell out again. Thankfully the machine wasn't on (although the PSU was powered..) and no harm done.

I've had both facing up and facing down dependent on the case and whether it was going to be sat on desk or floor. Just use common sense.

My current PSU sits on its side! Best of both worlds surely ;-)
