I sometimes want to game/work/listen to music, while the girlfriend wants to watch a movie/TV show. I currently have 3 displays connected (2 x 22" monitors and my TV) I have my headphones connected to the pc via the 3.5mm jack on the onboard, and the TV is connected via HDMI through my 7950.

I've tried fiddling with windows sound settings and the ATi CC, but with no luck. Sometimes it works, (usually LOTRO will start up on my headphones while leaving other sounds coming through the TV) But I think that's more down to luck.

So basically I'm wondering if there's a way to choose which sound output (speakers onboard or hdmi on the graphics card) gets used by which app.

Cheers

Yes, bit it will be app dependent, media player classic (which also comes bundled with k-lite codec pack) allows you to select the audio output, e.g. Soundcard, tv via hdmi etc.
Youd need similar for playing music, but not sure of one off the top of my head

VLC does the job as well andy.

Set windows sound to soundcard, set VLC to output HDMI, WMC can be configured to output through HDMI too.
