Hey guys n gals,

Not really been following computer hardware in awhile but since I started an IT job I decided to treat myself to a new rig. I'm looking at overclocking any suggestions would be great :) My Budget is £700 max any under would be better though! Also have I missed anything? I've already got monitor keyboard mouse speakers.

Zaf,

what you want the thermal epoxy for? you planning on sticking (and i mean sticking, that stuff is like the demon seamen, impossible to remove) a heatsink to a chip?

Yeah! well I thought that was the idea.

Just remembed was going to get the OEM chip and buy a seperate HSF but overclockes dont have them in stock right now

Swap the motherboard for the Gigabyte DS3. That chip will clock better with that motherboard and its cheaper as its on "This Week Only"

I'd change the motherboard for a Gigabyte DS3 or similar (a motherboard based on the 965 chipset anyway) as they tend to be rather better for overclocking the 6300 due to an ability to reach higher FSB speeds than the 975 chipset such as is in the DFI. It is also a bit cheaper. :)

I also wouldn't bother with the thermal epoxy, the retail heatsink and fan will come with thermal paste pre-applied and it is fine for most people plus if you want to change the cooler later it will be more difficult with the epoxy applied.

Looks fine to me
Although if it was me buying i would get the DS3 motherboard that's on the this week only deal and a seagate hard drive for the 5 year warranty and the seasonic 430w PSU, but thats just personal preference

Just to add another vote to the "you don't want thermal epoxy" party :)

And I'd consider a Tagan or Seasonic PSU for that money.

Because it is simpler than posting and changing the parts one by one I'll just post what I'd go for given the budget. :) If considering overclocking then it may be worth getting an aftermarket cooler such as the Arctic Freezer 7 but the stock cooler would do for just now.
