Hi, new to the forum and would appreciate advice on my first build. I'm looking to build a rig using the prodigy case solely for gaming and would if possible include an SSD. Budget is around £750-800 and will exclude OS, monitor keyboard and mouse. Looking to be able to play BF3/ Far Cry 3 on ultra if possible on this budget.

Thanks people,

Swede :)

Was that to do with a certain ninja edit perhaps? ;)

I seriously doubt that B grade 7950 GPU will be in stock long which Doomed has balanced the entire build around.

The 7850 is pretty good if overclocked. The 7870 is obviously better still, the 7870XT I have used is related to the 7950 and can be OC'd to match it. For gaming obviously the GPU is important. You can add a cooler later to overclock the CPU.

Its a steal at that price.

Its not completely based around it...

I was the only the to include an aftermarket cooler, so that could be removed and the B grade 7950 replaced with a 7870XT and still be within budget (or even a new 7950 and be just over budget).

Or

The H60 could be kept and a 7850 could be added..

Lots of choices. :)

Agreed. :D

Yes it was a bargain but you and Idleman have spec'd it to atleast five different people and it's now no longer available ;) I was trying to be realistic, there are ample B grade HDDs so he is likely to cop one of those.

The cost of the GPU cuts into how much we have to balance elsewhere. To be fair you did post a spec without a PSU but it did have a 1TB HDD for under £800. You then realised and nerfed the HDD to fit in the PSU, you didn't change the GPU. From what he is asking for he wants/needs the 7870XT or a 7950. I don't think he will be overly impressed with the 7850 performance, I think you'd have to agree.

So a heatsink isn't strictly needed now, it can be added later. The barebones CLC is a clever idea though. I do spec that too, as most people upgrade CLC stock fans it doesn't hurt to just buy what you want instead. It's even better if he already has some paste to hand. I think personally I would have put a 200mm LED fan in for the front and used the twin 120mm case fans to push/pull on the rad. Then maybe look to change those to quiet SP120mm later on.

£850 or a little more would help balance things better

The mobo is voltage locked so you can't push for high overclocks anyway. I agree I'd want an aftermarket cooler at some point though. I wasn't try to be a douche bud there are a few ways to balance the build. The OP will have to balance the budget and parts himself in the end. He is going to want to see other suggestions now I'm sure to help him figure it all out :)

Is the 7950 GPU the way to go if I was to look at a 1440p monitor later down the line?
