Can I get rid of 'Java' clutter?

In the directory "C:\Program Files\Java\", I have the following sub-directories:

jdk1.6.0.06 - 159.1 MB
jre6 - 75.7 MB
jre1.6.0_07 - 70.7 MB
jre1.6.0_06 - 70.7 MB

Is all this clutter really essential?
Are Java updates being applied without clearing out the old version?
Can I delete any of this stuff?

I prefer to uninstall and reinstall when new updates come along, but good question though..

Can't you just use the java control panel in control panel?

They aren't removed when you upgrade. You can remove them with Add/Remove Programs though...
