Can anybody provide me with any proof as above.

I've seen benchmarks and its usually 30-40%+ better but only at higher resolutions. How many games does SLI improve performance at lower than 1600 by 1200 resolutions?

as for Quad SLI, dont get me started.. that looks like a complete waste of time.

Let me put it this way...

My 2 6800GS in Sli can run FEAR at 1280*1024 Max settings 4xAA, 16xAF and still get an average of 80 FPS

Thing is FEAR loves Sli, but Sli does work trust me :)

Sightly off topic but I'd buy a Core 2 Q6600 and new mobo before I considered buying a second GTX if I were you.

Seconded.

SLi is a bit of a mixed bag - it can be buggy, need a profile to work well, and when it does, you still don't get double the performance of a single card.

It's only worth it if you can get the second (or both) card(s) really cheap - otherwise try and stay single-card if you can.

Although in your case you can't really go any further. :o Tried clocking the nuts off your GTX? ;)

Yup quad did seem to be a pos of the highest order, i think it semi worked on a handfull of games, despite the bs of nvidia's chairman saying that the load was distributed between the cards almost perfectly. They just seemed to see sli selling and slapped together 4 cards with gaffer tape and heralded it as some kind of big improvement.

If you mean sli 8800gtx...Why would you want or even need an SLI setup went gaming at a res lower then 1600x1200

Plus you wouldn't get hardly any more performance from an SLI 8800gtx setup below 1600x1200 because the cards would be CPU limited in most games...

my sli 7900gs setup is fantastic when i added the secong card i would say i got 80-90% increase in frame rates in most games i play sli 8 seies on the other hand maybe overkill/buggy

well i did SLI for few months with 6800 ultras and my 3dmark 06 was 5400 points which is very good, some games sli worked well and you can see the increase others it was pants. its all dependent on drivers and games that have support

Well i will buy a new mobo/cpu/ram later if phenom is any good.

reason i ask about sli is i want more fps in games, apparently its unobtainable if you already have the best card.. sucks

as for overclocking current cpu, i cant.. cpu/memory or both are junk.

Which game/s are you not getting enough FPS in with your single 8800gtx and gaming at or under 1600x1200 res ???

As I explained in the other thread, yup quad sli is a waste of time...

At 1280x and below res you are going to run into CPU limitations in some games with SLI but you will still see a moderate performance boost generally...

I'll post up some benchmarks later but from the games I do play (at both 1440x900 and 1920x1200) I know these off hand...

GTA:VC - Takes no advantage of SLI - infact forcing SLI modes drops fps by 25%

Quake 3 - Doesn't really need SLI but gives double the performance of a single card - with an E6600 @ 3.2gig I can pretty much hold 1000fps in it with SLI.

Doom3,Quake 4,ETQW - Double the framerate at 1440x and above - even at 640x480 with CPU limitation it still gets atleast a 45% framerate increase.

Source Games - 80% Framerate increase overall - SLI gains seem to be CPU limited even at fairly high res...

Lost Planet - not played the game but done the benchmark and gains are twice that of a single card even at fairly low resolutions...

I think SLi is a waste, I'm not paying for 2 cards unless I get 2x the performance in every game, I'd rather buy the fastest single card solution.

Exactly what i think about SLi, would be cool if when you buy a single card capable of SLi you could get the same card again for half price or something would tempt me i think.

Aye but they'd have to be a special version of the card that only works in SLi, otherwise you'd get people getting them cheap and selling them on for near full price. :p
