Went and test rode some Triumphs earlier, what an awesome day :D

Tried a tiger 800 road then a street triple R and an 800 XC. The engines in these bikes are so bloody nice, totally smooth with great fuelling and sound sweet as well.

The street triple is now my favourite bike and I'd have one in an instant if I could run two bikes and store them but I can't so need something a bit more practical :( It just makes you want to loose your license as well.

I thought the tiger 800 road would be nicer on road than the XC and it sortof was, the smaller front wheel and better tyres where good but I found the suspension too hard and the front end occasionally bounced/hopped in corners, apparently others have had this as well but can be fixed with some tuning.

And last of all the XC. It was great, it has upgraded suspension over the Road and it really works, it's supple but still well controlled and took all the A & B roads in it's stride. The engine is awesome, riding position really comfy and I can load it up to the gunnel's to go on trips.

So the F800 has to go and a 800xc found :D

Went out on brand new street and speed triples last year back to back and they are both fantasic bikes.

thumbs up to triumph dealers as well where test rides are welcome and not a chore, unlike some other dealers!

Yeah the dealer was great, knew all about the bikes and could explain things well. There was very little pressure and happily let me take out all 3. Saying that I had good experiences from the BMW dealers as well, they where a little more salesy but still very easy to try out bikes with.

Oddly I was reading about the 800XC on the Street Triple owners forum earlier, does sound like it'd make a good road bike, not sure I could give up my Street Triple R though, lovely bike :D

Have you done many long rides on it? I've been watching vids on the tiger and street and just keep on thinking I should buy a street for the summer and have some fun :D

There's people using them as sports tourers, this guy did over 5k in one trip. Pretty sure there's some luggage racks that could go on for the occasional long trip.

Got a 2006 Speedy myself and will be doing a 5 day tour of Scotland this summer.

Fitted a 15L-22L Quick Lock tank bag earlier in the week and have some throw over panniers on the way.

I did look for hard luggage racks but not much about really for this bike. There was some Ventura thing you can fit to the back but I didn't like the look of it :)

I think there's more on offer for 2011+ Speedy's though.

Not particularly long rides no, my commute made up most of the miles (11k in ~15 months) which is 37 ish miles each way, a few random rides up to 50 miles or so and then one 'trip' to my Mum's house. I stop at my Dad's so it ends up being ~85 miles and then ~130 miles, all A-Roads and it was perfectly fine, and by 130 miles the fuel light is probably just coming on so need to stop for a bit anyway but didn't feel the need.

I've got the official triumph 10-16l (iirc) tank bag and use a rucksack for everything else for the stuff I do. There is a bigger official tank bag, and the tail pack obviously, Givi do some soft pannier racks but iirc they don't fit the Arrow exhausts I've got and then there's the Ventura rack that MADMAN69UK mentions, fugly but good storage capacity :)

When I get the time and money I intend to do a trip to either Ireland or Scotland for a long weekend/week, I'll be staying in B&B's so not much need for all that much luggage and I think it'd be absolutely fine for that

Yeah just had a quick look, there's a couple of mounts for hard luggage but kinda ruin the looks.

givi mount
sw-motech mount

I have a givi v46 already so it could go straight on and a dry bag strapped to the seat carrying a tent etc for longer trips.

Do you think the R is worth it over the std street triple?

imo yes, but it's hard for me to really compare...

I rode the non-R back in 2008 (so before the R was release) back-to-back with the Daytona, and I really didn't like it, over high speed bumps mid-corner it felt really unsettled at the back, especially compared to the Daytona.

Then I only rode the R back in January 2011 when I rode the new Speed, the old Speed and the Street R, which prompted me to buy the Street R. It definitely doesn't have a problem with mid-corner bumps at high speed :D

The main differences are:
Brakes - Radial vs 'Normal' - imo not an issue, I never brake hard on the roads and I'm not gonna track the bike
Seating position, higher seat tilted further forwards, only minor but I think it's better for going quick whilst still be comfy
Suspension - Much better imo, and the main reason why I'd take the R over the non-R

Back to the comparison though, not only was it 3 years but in that time I started racing so my skills developed hugely, not really sure how that affected the comparison but it will have made a difference to how I ride/judge a bike...

Woohoo, one black with gold wheels STR on it's way, looks all JSP colours :D

Man choosing between diablo red and black was the hardest decision I've made in ages, both look really nice. It's coming with the belly pan, rad cowl's, rear hugger, fly screen + attached dark visor, tank protector, heated grips & 2 power sockets (aha) and some free servicing. Just trying to decide on the rear tail pack and the tank bag as they will give me a discount on them as well. Pickup should be a week on Friday, gonna be a long week.

I loved my Speed Triple R :) It's a great all round bike, more than enough for the road (not that it stopped me trading in for a 1000cc lol)

Good choice, mines the Gloss Blazing Orange and it's stunning, do have a soft spot for black and gold though after my first 'proper' bike being a black and gold FZR400 :)

You forgot to spec the Arrow cans though :p

Was thinking of picking up some 2nd hand and then sell them on separate :) they're like £600-700 new :o

aha yeah I've joined up a few days ago, think I saw someone talking about the US30 on there when I was searching about the tail pack :)

The demo bike I tried had the arrows on it, sounded great but too loud for me with the baffles out. My old SV650 had a full race micron on it, had to use earplugs for every ride, not doing that again :D
