Can I have four screens on two graphics cards?

Basically above. Wondered if this is possible with cards not in sli/crossfire, can I also use two different cards.

If each card has 1 vga and 1 dvi, you can hook up four screens

I run 4 screens over 2 cards as my home setup

Used this on several combinations of cards with no problems too.

Edit: I also believe the new nvidia drivers will let you switch to SLI when a game launches (and disable 2 screens) and switch back to independent mode when you quit. I haven't tried this though,
