i just bought a crucial 64GB SSD. when i got my ocz one for the other PC i just reinstalled windows on it - i just cleared my first ever virus off it and needed a reinstall anyway

the PC that this SSD is going into only had windows reinstalled 2 weeks ago anyway. can i just image it across, activate trim and that's it?

The issue with imaging software and the operating system is drivers. Before looking at that, I'm aware that when I used to install XP on some IBM laptops I had to load drivers for Windows to see the drive.

If you manage to restore an image on SSD, the OS may not have the drivers to understand the device.

I've seen a post elsewhere that can help if the drivers are not supported. Hope this helps. Can you see is the new drive is picked up if you try an run a new OS install. This will give you a good idea.

haven't got it yet. got a shipping confirm off OC so hoping it arrives tomorrow

if it's like the other, it'll see it fine.

what i'm thinking now, is that this windows install isn't installed as AHCI and i think you need that for trim don't ya?

i might just reinstall anyway. screw it :D

As long as the settings are the same and its a straight swop, yes, fine. Thats exactly how I dud dun it. You don't need ACHI for TRIM. IDE mode worked fine for me!

Depends on what OS is installed. If it's XP then no, you shouldn't do it, as it will not align across blocks.

However SSDs do weird stuff behind the scenes, and I personally would take the time needed to reinstall properly, because if you get problems down the line you'll end up doing it to rule it out.
