hey guys,

i am using some QPAD QH-90's and have them connected to my asus DGX 5.1 soundcard.

atm i have dolby surround on, and i want to improve the sound of my headset, is there anything else i can do it improve it?

a different sound card maybe?

and tips would be great thanks :)

What's wrong with the sound at the moment? A better sound card might give a little better, but not going to be massive. Probably something like the STX or similar. AFAIK they are DT770s, not sure if they have messed with the sound of them but If you aren't happy with the sound as it is now, I'd say you aren't too fond of the Beyerdynamic signature.

Personally, I think stereo is better than Dolby Headphone function for music on my dx, as some of the details that can be heard in stereo mode seem to disappeared or faded when in Dolby Headphone mode.

Ill try turning off dolby when im next on the PC, they just dont seem like they are giving quality sound if that makes sense.

If you're playing music then they need to be in straight stereo mode (no Dolby and just 2 channels) and with gaming it depends on the game as some (like BF4) have their own headphone driver which does the same as Dolby Headphone and you don't want the sound being processed twice. So a game like Skyrim should be set to 8 channels and Dolby Headphone ON, while Battlefield 4 should be set to 2 channels and Dolby Headphone OFF.

Looking at reviews, the dgx is a bit of a budget soundcard and measures only marginally better than onbowrd audio for distortion, if changing settings doesnt have the desired effect, it does look like an alternative sub-£100 soundcard could offer a decent upgrade, something like the soundblasterz or essence stx

Would the asus xonar rog sound card be worth getting?

If im honest, i dont really know how to set headsets up with sound cards.

so why have you got the daughter card with your STX II?
Sorry I was talking about headphone specifically, as OP is talking about headset.

I use my PC with both TV and monitor. For movies on TV I use 5.1 speakers setup more than I do with headphone; with monitor I use my Creative T40 II and headphones.

is there a sound card that will be better suited to my headset? as my headset is stereo, would the rog 7.1 sound card be a waste?

stereo headset the stx would be best but if that's too much the solo will be just fine it has a dedicated headphone amp.

Or you can consider the creative z
