Can I install 32-bit Windows7?

impossible.

Hi Meatball & Burnsy2023,

Just because you can't do something you shouldn't assume that others are incapable of achieving what you consider to be 'Impossible'

You cannot run 32Bit drivers on a 64Bit O/S :). VM or dual-booting is the only option if your hardware doesn't have 64Bit drivers.

It appears your scanner does have 64Bit drivers available they're just hidden for some reason: CLICK ME & ME :). 64Bit drivers available here.

I really think you should read my post again.

I never claimed that the vista 32 drivers do not contain 64 bit drivers, they must do because they work!

I think Epson pulled the plug on 64 so that they could sell a bunch of new scanners.

You posted that it was 'impossible' to get vista32 drivers to work on Windows 7 x64 for an Epson Perfection 2480 Photo.

It isn't.

It is :). You cannot use 32bit drivers on a 64bit OS. Did you not read the highlighted text above? That's straight from Microsoft's website. Windows x64 will not even allow you to install 32bit drivers.

I didn't say that. 64bit drivers for your scanner are available from Epson direct here :). It is my understanding that previous driver installers were only listed as 32bit when in fact they contained both 32bit and 64bit drivers. I can't explain why they wouldn't listed 64bit drivers.

The driver date has no correlation as to whether the driver is 64bit or 32bit. Here's a screenshot from my current PC (W7 Home Premium x64)

That's my Blu-Ray drive. It's using a 64Bit Microsoft driver dated 2006.

Windows 64 requires all drivers to be signed. 32 bit doesn't require this so why would Epson sign them? Answer is, they don't.

Even if they did, they still wouldn't work.

Just because your drivers were listed as 32bit does not mean anything. I could rename a driver package "Vista x128". Makes no odds. All you have proven is that the driver package you installed contained 64bit drivers, whether you noticed or not.

ding ding ding, we have a winrar :).

As I started this thread, here is the outcome. I tried various ways to get the Epson 3200 scanner working in 64-bit mode, including Meatball's link. But no luck. The drivers all install Twain OK, but the Epsonscan application won't start and although Smart panel can be installed it can't find a Twain driver.
Photoshop will only get Twain images; it doesn't list the scanner as a source (which triggers the Epsonscan application), only the WIA (Twain) option. This means there is no Slide scan, no Copier, no OCR etc.
So I bit the bullet and installed Windows 7 32-bit and It's working fine now.
The Epson wording for the 3200 driver is very careful:
"EPSON Scan directly controls all of the features of your EPSON scanner. With this software you can scan images in color, grayscale, or black and white and obtain professional quality results. This program is the standard cross-platform interface between your scanner and most applications. You can access it from any application that supports the TWAIN standard."
But there isn't a word about the Epsonscan application, where the multiple slide scan is one of the key features of the machine.

I'd no idea so much would emerge from my initial question. A big thank you to everybody for so much info.
