can i install m4 ssd in m17x and other questions

Can I install my m4 ssd when I get my alienware m17x? Is it fairly easy and will it work out of the box, will I need any adapters or will i need to edit BIOS or anything, can i keep the 750 gb hdd with the dell image as a storage drive in the other slot or do i not need to as I hear it voids warrenty. Can i install windows home premium and use the key?

You can, you will just need to reinstall windows if you want to get it on AHCI otherwise it will be using the raid controller.

If your not bothered, just clone the 750 to the SSD.

Ahh yeah I know to change bios, would you advise to only keep in the ssd when installing windows? Will the key work from the laptop? And how would you clone the hdd?

Also, are alienware bioses generally locked down?

You can download a legal version of windows and use your key as long as you get the right version (windows home 64bit).

I cant remember the program I used, Ive got it on my hard drive, it was a free trial, Ill let you know what it is when im on my laptop next (i keep it at my girlfriends house).

As for the bios, you can overclock by changing the fsb if you want, i tried it and got an extra couple of hundred mhz, but set it back to regular.
