Currently I have a 512kb connection for my house, apparently I can’t get any more than this, and I have checked with my ISP and BT on this. To add to this I have to share the Internet with my entire family, however 90% of the time it’s just my sister. At home I set up a small Window XP Pro computer (as a sort of proxy server) with the USB speedtouch modem connected to it with the Internet shared. The server is connected to a wired switch, from the wired switch the wireless router is connected. Whenever any one of us looks at a site that uses flash, or has a lot of pictures, it hogs up loads of bandwidth.
I was wondering if there was a way for me to set a maximum bandwidth allowance for their machines, or IPs. Currently when ever I start playing CoD2 online my ping is erratic going from any where between 45 to 200 all the way up to 400, this makes playing FPS games online a complete pain in the arse. I don’t mind paying for some extra software. I just want my bandwidth back.
