I've been reading about this all day. Suggestions of different vdsl face plates, different modems routers. Just wondering if anyone here has an ideal combination of kit to gain those few extra meg?

Its not really a problem. I sync at 77000 out of the possible 79995 max. But for the first 8 months of my connection I had a max sync of 89000 then over Christmas it dropped to 77000 and stayed there. I use a HH5 for information.

So firstly, Mk3 vDSL face plate. People reporting 1 - 2Mb better sync rate. Currently a £4.99 upgrade. Anyone got one?

Secondly the huawei 612 modem. People reporting 1 - 5mbit more over the HH5. £20 upgrade.

I am just thinking towards the future. If BT will ever offer 160mbit etc. If for the sake of £25 sync my line at 100mbit down and 30mbit up that would be nice. 25% more down and 50% more up than current.

So, worth customizing? Anyone got either of the above kit?

Be thankful you get a connection that fast!

As more and more people take it up in the cabinet your speed will go down due to cross talk. There is a thing called vectoring that may help but BT are being slow in doing it.

Mine started off at 70meg i am now on 35meg due to crosstalk and my cab being nearly full.

I am wondering if BT will remove the bitrate caps. So people will get max possible speed their line can do. Example mine right now is 78000kbps down and 26200kbps up.

But yes I was one of the first on my estate to get fibre.

Of course BT can remove the cap except they won't. VDSL is subject to the same issues as ADSL when it comes to the physical cable and network performance.

If you want a faster connection, you're either going to have to go with VM cable or move to an area with an FTTH provider like Gigaclear or Hyperoptic. I get 1000/1000 with Gigaclear for £38 per month with no limits or throttling.
