Can I not sync a folder with MobileMe?

When I log onto MobileMe Mail using the web app, I have three mail folders.

They all appear within mail.app on my Mac(s). I have a rule set within Mail which filters mail into these folders.

Is it possible for me to not have mail which goes into these folders appear on my iPhone? To do this, would my Mac have to be running all the time so that the rule is running or does that run within the MobileMe cloud?

Mail.app executes the rules - Apple's servers won't know anything about them.

Even if Mail.app was left running all the time, wouldn't there be a race condition where there's the chance of the iPhone fetching and notifying you of new mail in your inbox before Mail.app fetches and runs its rule?
