im planning on going conroe with a 975x mobo hopfuly before santa comes and to keep the price down i was going to buy 1gig of ram now and another after christmas but im not sure if the latest mobos will run with 1 stick of ram so basicly do they or dont they

You should be fine with 1 stick of RAM, can't see it as a problem.

As already said above you should be fine with one stick of RAM, as for compatibility issues when mixing unmatched memory in dual channel modes, thats another story

Which conroe are you intending to get?

If E6300 or E6400 go with one of the gigabyte range, DS3 is awsome.

If E6600 and upwards go for one of the asus boards.
