hey guys,

a friend of mine is wondering if he can make an order and then pick it up and pay at ocuk ??

cheers :)

will it be more expansive or same price ??

The same price.

Remember that you can't take anything back to the shop if you change your mind unless it's unopened and within 7 days.

If you have it delivered you have the Distance Selling Regulations to fall back on.

This is especially useful for things like monitors where the odd pixel fault isn't enough to class the monitor as faulty but you can still send it back under the DSR.

nope he wont change his mind, it can still be RMA'd if needed tho ??

Components can still be RMA'd if faulty.

I assume he's buying just a bunch of components?

If you're confident in what he's buying then fair enough but you could post a list of what he's getting if you want it checked.

hes not a big gamer but wants to play bf3 with high settings etc..

im giving him 4gb xms3 ram a monitor and a 250gb hdd

but im thinking going amd phenom ii x4 as its cheaper

You can get a cheaper motherboard then that one that will be just as good, if he never plans to SLI that PSU is overkill, the Corsair H100 is hummm overkill too and not worth the money and you will need to buy better fans for it too so adding more to the cost.

The system you put up there is not really well balanced for a new system for someone just wanting to play BF3 and game on it.

Gimme a min will try spec you something that will be worth it. You wasted a lot of money there on things that are not really needed and can be put into a better graphics card for example and he will see more benefits from it.

Also I hope you are not giving him the 250GB harddrive as a boot drive (Os Drive for windows) because you have basically crippled that machine right there with loading speeds, a 250GB drive is old and slow by todays standard drives.

As you see both these parts come under the price of your parts and are much better and a better balanced system, you even have some money left over to buy him a decent hardrive instead of giving him that slow 250GB drive (guessing its not an SSD you are giving him) and even some money for some decent RAM 8GB is really what you want now not 4GB and install windows 7 64bit.

there is 2 gtx460's there and really likes my msi p55-gd80 so he wants one himself lol

maybe amd is the better route to save some money

Purgatory has said pretty much what I was going to say.

I'll let him get on with the spec. :)

The other thing to consider is the graphics cards.

The HD 6850 seems to offer similar performance to the GTX 460 and uses less power.

You don't need an 850W PSU for SLI'd GTX 460's and you need even less for CrossFired HD 6850's.

Edit

If your friend is going to use your old HDD then it needs SATA as there's no IDE support.

yep its sata, and no i was giving it to him for extra space

what about if he went amd route, phenom ii x4 and a am3 board and amd gpu ??

i want to try save as much money as possible, so maybe a cheaper case as well

what about that ?? saves a lot and will be able to add a SSD or even xfire gpu

He does not need to worry about SSD at this time for a new system, he can add all these more expensive things later. Also what is his budget mate? That way I can help you better and yes there are cheaper decent cases then the corsair too, but cases are really a thing that is personal and depends what you like the look off and also what resolution is his monitor ?

me personally want to keep it at £600 but it can go over if needed, but £600 will be amazing, im giving him a 22" monitor as well but only goes to 1680x1050, but i think hes buying a new one next month

i think amd for him personally as hes not a big gamer and its cheaper

Okay gimme a min, see at 1680 x 1050 resolution he is better off with one good graphics card and even if he does go to 1920 x 1080 / 1200 a decent single graphics card with more then 1GB of memory will make his system more future proof.

no, dont go AMD. right now there isnt a single reason to go AMD if your a gamer:
(look at the FPS scores, they're the ones your interested in)

i3 2100 vs phenom II x4 980: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/362?vs=289

i5 2500k vs phenom II X6 1100T: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/203?vs=288

i5 2500k vs bulldozer FX 8150: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/434?vs=288

i5 2500k vs i7 2600k: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/287?vs=288

as you can see, the i5 2500k is the best processor to go for if your gaming. with that in mind, and assuming your friend chose the corsair 650D because he likes the looks of it more than any other case (or wants watercooling some time in the future) i'd recommend this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 570 OC WINDFORCE 3X 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £279.98
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £179.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 650D Gaming Midi Tower - Black £139.99
1 x MSI Z68A-GD55-G3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £124.99
1 x Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD502HJ) £86.99
1 x Lepa B-Series 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular Power Supply - with FREE LEPA Hard Drive Enclosure £74.98
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £39.98
1 x Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £25.99
1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £17.99
Total : £987.38 (includes shipping : £13.75).

for some reason there doesnt seem to be any of the non overclocked 570s with custom coolers for a decent price, because that would be what i;d recommend at this budget. i wouldnt go for SLI 460s because theres no easy upgrade path and you'll get a hell of a lot of microstuttering
