Well its that time again.. Time for a new pc! And my excuse is this year that I might get to do a little direct X10 development! So I've come up with the following and basically want to check its all in order. I have a question though:

Which cooler? tuniq? scythe? thermalright? freezer 7? the usual candidates. I have to say I reckon they'll all perform the same and I'm leaning towards the freezer...

£270 for an 8800 gts is a lot ! There are cheaper versions. Plus the 8800 gtx is only £293 in this weeks sale

its cheaper in other places :p. I really can't afford to go over either... it was either that card or the 2900XT and it was neck and neck till I saw the power consumption of the XT!

I'd get the Corsair PSU, better quality, reliability and highly recommended around here as well as being very quiet:
Corsair HX 520W £57.99
£68.14 inc VAT

The RAM is also slightly overkill and rather expensive for just 2GB of RAM, I mean for a few pounds more you can get 4GB of RAM which you may benefit more from than having less faster RAM.
If your looking to do some serious overclocking then any PC2-6400 will be fine, you can also get the same speed RAM for much less from OCuK:
OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz
£64.99
£76.36 inc VAT

You might also want to check out their 4GB RAM kit but will give you less overclocking potential mind.
OcUK 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-5300C5 667MHz
£99.99
£117.49 inc VAT

NOTE: Your need a 64bit OS if you plan on getting 4GB of RAM.

Also theirs no need to spend extra on pre-overclocked cards, for a lot less you can get a
Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB
£189.99
£223.24 inc VAT

which you can easily enough overclock yourself.

CPU Cooling wise, it depends on whether or not you plan on overclocking:
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
£14.99
£17.61 inc VAT

Cheap, budget option also very quiet although I wouldn't really advise doing much overclocking with this as its a lot less beefier than other coolers although you might get away with maybe overclocking to ~3GHz as these new "Energy Efficient" editions are meant to run cooler and need less volts.

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
£26.99
£31.71 inc VAT

More beefier and more wiser choice if you plan on overclocking, its recommended a fair amount and has proved itself when it comes to overclocking Quads although some people say its a bit noisy.

Noctua NH-U12F Heat-sink
£27.99
£32.89 inc VAT

Again a bit more beefier than the Tuniq Tower and comes with a bigger fan and is fairly quiet and more than adequate of cooling your quad core and should allow for some very high clock speeds.

Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme Heatsink
£41.99
£49.34 inc VAT

With a 120mm fan of your choice, probably be the best Air cooling solution you can get although a lot more expensive.

ok so ive dropped the ram down to 6400 C4 ballistix which i intend to OC and I'm going with a standard 8800 GTS and opted for the 520W corsair PSU after reading the reviews. Same g0 stepped Q6600 and P5K-E mobo. Still trying to decide on a cooler. I'm not sure if the Tuniq 120 will fit in the case.. an antec SLK3800B
