Hey guys, great forum you have setup here!

Ok so I am a complete newb when it comes to the idea of overclocking and so would like some basic help and guidance. I currently have an Acer laptop which I recently upgraded its RAM from 4GB to 8GB but sadly sore no real change in speed and so now I would like to over clock my CPU.

My system is as follows:

Acer Aspire 5738 laptop
Windows 7 64bit
Intel core 2 duo processor T6400 (2.0 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L" cache)
Seagate momentus HDD (500GB total 4GB of which is solid state)
8GB DDR3 RAM

So I hope the above information is enough information and I really hope I can speed up my system somehow! Thanks! :)

It's never really worth overclocking a laptop. Because of the confined space, and impossibility of upgrading the cooling system heat becomes a major issue really quickly.

If you want a faster laptop you're going to have to buy something faster unfortunately.

Brilliant thanks for the advice, I did think that heating would be an issue but was not sure. Do you think it would be ok to buy a new processor for it like an i3 or i5?

Changing the processor in a laptop is not a job for the faint hearted!

Your Core 2 Duo uses a completely different socket to the newer i3 and i5 processors anyway, so it's not even possible to upgrade.

If you want to fiddle with components and overclocking you need a desktop setup.
