I've never overclocked before and i was wondering what sort of overclock i might be able to achieve with the following, 'CPUwise' and 'GPUwise':

Gigabyte GA-K8NMF-9 Motherboard
2X512Mb PC3200 DDR400 CL2.5-6-3-3 RAM
Athlon64 3700+ San Diego 1Mb L2 Cache Socket 939 (55Celsius at near 100% load)
Radeon X800 GTO
Titan 550W PSU
Basic CPU Cooler (don't know brand) - i know i will need to replace this
No case fans (there is room for an 80mm fan to face the motherboard)

I'm currently trying to get my head around the sticky on basics of overclocking. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this one.

I'd recommend that you get some case cooling - ideally at least one in at the front and one out at the back. If your case doesn't have the space for fans at the front and back, then at least have the one you mentioned sucking air in. Your PSU will be sucking some air out, so at least you'd have some airflow.

A new cpu cooler would be a good idea also, although I've got my son's pc's a64 3000+ from 1.8ghz to 2.4ghz on the stock cooler.

If you know what you're doing with overclocking, then just give it a go. Those 3700's usually clock very well, so you should easily reach 2.6ghz and beyond :D

Thanks for your reply.
Just opened up the case and there are holes for 2 120mm fans at front and back as well as the 80mm for the side.

About to order the following:

Zalman ZM-MFC1 fan controller
Zalman ZM-F3 120mm fan (2 of)
Zalman ZM-F1 80mm Fan
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 PRO socket 939 h/s & fan
Arctic Silver V Compound

If you think anything is missing or could be improved upon, please let me know.

I have searched the forum and i can't seem to find some hints on how to test the quality of my PSU (rails, voltage, amps etc..).
Is there some software that performs this?

edit: i'm straying off topic now - i'll ask this in the GH forum
