Can i pair a 280 with 7970?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but, does anybody know if these two cards will play together?
Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 3Gb + MSI R9 280 3Gb ?
Google keeps coming up with 280x paired with 7970. not normal 280

On the basis you could happily crossfire a 7970/7950 i don't think there would be aby problems in funning a 7970/280.

They are the same cards pretty much.

Isnt the 280 basically a rebadged 7950, whereas the 280x is a 7970? If that's the case, even if it works, it will reduce the speed of the 7970 to that of a 7950 i think.

yes you can mix 7950/7970/R9-280/R9-280x

you would be better off with a 7970 or 280x but you can overclock the other two to help close the gap

the 7970 will not run at reduced speeds, you can run different clock speeds/cards as long as they are the same chip/architecture with AMD.

its not smooth when the GPU clocks are not the same. but that said most 7950's/280's will overclock to 7970 speeds with ease

Not noticed any problems running my 7970's are mixed speeds.

1000mhz and 1100 mhz.
