Can I play my Xbox 360 offline and use my saved games?

I'm a bit confused about my 360 and the way the saved game system works. If I am not signed into Xbox live can I still use the game saves that are on the hard drive and associated with my profile? If I am not signed in it says it cannot find a saved game and prompts me to start a new account. I don't want to be always signed in, is there a way around this?

Thanks :)

Yes

What happens is you sign in to the 360 first and then the console automatically tries to connect to LIVE.

When on LIVE you can set your status to away or off line like in msn. You can also turn the notifications off if you want too.

Ah right, I see. So I sign into my 360 profile first and the console then checks for the online status. That's much better then, I'm waiting for my wireless router to arrive so I don't have a great big cable trailing to my modem in the other room. Wife was getting a bit annoyed because she couldn't browse the net while I was playing on my console.

Thanks very much!

You can also sign in without connecting to Live. Simply unplug the eternet cable or your wireless adapter. Then go to sign in as normal and it simply come up with an error message, just OK that and your signed in without connecting to live.
