Can I play USB video audio through the HDMI arc port on my TV to my AV receiver?

Hello. I currently have a Panasonic TX-58HX800b and I'm watching content from a USB stick plugged into the TV. I was wondering if it was possible to use HDMI arc on the TV to output audio to an AV receiver, and use that connection to play back audio from video files on a USB stick plugged into the TV.

I know that my TV cannot pass through lossless audio because it's only got a ARC not eARC, but I was wondering if this would be possible with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound (ac-3). If anyone has any experience I'd really appreciate you helping me. Thanks.

I'd expect so, it's exactly what I do on my LG TV when I play from USB as the TV's volume is never turned on. So basically I play the USB through the TV, which is sent then through arc to my AV receiver and spat out. Yes, it's normal dolby digital but it works a treat.

Yes, that should work.

I have a GX800 currently playing a USB rip of Star Trek Discovery playing out via ARC to a Yamaha AV receiver. The front panel of the receiver tells me it is getting Dolby Digital. If I change to a different file I get the options to select the surround decoding such as DPLII etc, so I know that the audio on the second file is PCM and on the first is DD. Both work.
