Quite simple question really, as per title.

We've got an HP X1600 running Solaris/ZFS that's approaching capacity, and I'm looking to add more drives to it. It's got a SAS port on the back of it, so could I (in theory) buy an MSA60, fill it with 12 more drives and get another blob of space?

I'm assuming that if it's possible, it's a simple case of plugging it into the X1600 and letting Solaris rescan available drives?

While I'm here, are there any bigger drive cages that HP (or anyone else) sells? 24 bays would be more useful than 12....

Yes you can. Also, there are several other options available for expansion. MSA 60, MSA 70, a D2xxx Disk enclosure, or an MDS600 Disk enclosure. You may need an additional Smart Array controller depending on the current configuration of the X1600 you have.
