Can I put a password?

UPDATE : Phoned my insurance company and have indeed been able to put a password on the policy, as well as some extra security details.

Understanding from this thread it sounds as if there isn't all the much I can do if my "mate" does indeed pursue this claim with solicitors and what not, but it's for extra peace of mind I guess. :)

The password will only protect you from someone proporting to be you - wanting to make changes to your policy.

You can't password someone out of making a claim - it's illegal. If he contacts the claims dept - they WILL speak to him.

:)

the password makes no differents whatsoever when it comes to issuing a claim against you, litterally none. the claim will be reported to your insurer by either post or over the phone, people do not need to know a password to report a claim against you.

i expect he is writing to you to perform the first steps of the pre action protocol of early notification. when you say HE wrote to you, was it HIM or his solicitor?

you should get the letter out of the bin and get it to your insurer. if they do proceed, then you have the insurers safety net to pay the price. if they dont proceed, there is no claim on your policy so you lose no precious NCB

do you have any NCB?

I realise this, but it does stop anyone else who knows the basic details about me from ringing up and posing as me. So even though the original thought was to stop him, I know I can't now but it doesn't hurt to have the extra security :)

Yes HE wrote to me.

And No I don't have any NCB due to the accident anyway, plus the second they pay me out I'm going to be cancelling the policy.

Why don’t you forward his letter, along with a letter of your own, saying you are only forwarding the letter as you have been instructed to by your “mate”, and that you don’t believe he did suffer any loss of earnings or any serious injuries. You can even include the msn conversation if you want. That way you don’t have to worry about getting in trouble for being obstructive to the claim, but its down to your insurance company if they want to loose money by paying out on a false claim.
