Hi - I built my PC about 4 years ago and put a Zalman flower on to my CPU to cool it. As far as I know this is still a good cooler so i was thinking of re-using it when i upgrade my PC components.

Is this is a bad idea or is it ok to re-use the fan? I was wondering perhaps about the surface plate being effected over time or something...

I used artic silver 5 thermal compound to interface it to my CPU - what's the best way to get this off and clean?

I don't have the original bracket kit that I got with the flower. I will be changing my mobo so may need a new bracket/attachment kit - where would i get such a thing?

Any isopropyl alcohol should clean it easily, if you don't have any of that just buy some of this stuff: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...=Akasa AK-TC TIM Clean CPU & Heatsink Cleaner

Works like a charm, use it at work all the time, even for just removing stains off the work benches :p

But your cooler should be fine to use, I know a couple of people who are using them on their quad rigs. Admitedly at stock speeds but it's still a hell of a lot better than the intel stock jobby :)

Firstly if the new motherboard you're getting is a different socket (S939 v LGA775) and you don't have the other brackets then no it won't fit.

If it's the same socket on both motherboards you won't have a problem.

If you are changing socket type just get a new cooler.

Get a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro (LGA775) or a Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler (LGA775 & AM2)

What is the spec of the new system going to be?

Spec is going to be E8500 (or possibly a quadcore but i doubt it) along with a 4850 graphics card.

Thanks for the tips on the air coolers. I wanted a quiet system to be honest - are either of those you mentioned reasonably quiet?

I am toying with the idea of trying water cooled for the first time. I figure now is the time to do it - get some practice in before nehelum is out :) However, WARHAMMER is coming out next week and i really need to get a system sorted out asap . hmm what to do!

The Noctua is an excellent heat sink coupled with the supplied 120mm fan.

One thing to note is that the nuctua has a backing plate with you attach to the motherboard first which then you screw the noctua down on top of it, it's very firm and an excellent fit.

I am using one myself in a push and pull method and it's also very quiet.

In regards to water cooling i have no idea, however i'm going to be venturing into watercooling also so keep me posted :)
