Managed to source the exact same mobo as the one causing the problems.

If I just replace the mobo (putting all other items back the same) will windows (xp) have a hissy fit and require a re-install or will it work straight away?

Any suggestions/things I can do to make it work before I take the plunge?

I cannot access the current windows install at all so I cannot make any changes to the existing drivers etc

Can I use a windows repair from the xp disk?

Worked fine for me when an asus a8n sli deluxe died, rma was taking quite long so i picked one up at auction and rebuilt the system without issue.

excellent - cheers guys - will give you an update when the mobo arrives. Fingers crossed

If it's exactly the same mainboard it will be fine. I change mainboards on a daily basis, and providing it's the same chipset it should be fine. No need to remove drivers either especially if it is identical.

ive done it, Also changed mobo manufacturers and still worked, didnt have any visible issues, may have deep down and later on but was temp solution anyway,
