Im looking into building a new PC in the next few months, this pc is showing its age now as it was back in 2006 when i built it.

The only things id keep from it would be to reuse the case (its a silver cooler master praetorian) , cd/dvd drive and keep the 1tb hdd as a backup drive.

the PSU in it is a Tagan 580w, so its an 8 year old PSU, but would i still be able to use it or would i need to get a new psu.

Im looking at different specs now from other suggestions posted etc so im getting a rough idea of some prices and wondering if i would need a new PSU or would it be able to be reused in a new build.

i would prob go for something abut similar to the build in this thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18573890 if that helps.

it wont be a dedicated gaming PC as i mainly use the PS3 etc for that, more a casual gaming pc.

I mainly use it for a lot of decal design in corel draw, and sometimes to odd few games

the only game i play atm is that Euro Truck simulator game, id proberly end up playing more PC games as a newer system would be better at running them i wont be running stuff like cod and bf at mega high settings etc.

Tagan PSU are reasonable units, the age factor could be against it.

But for light gaming then you should be fine, anything more I would invest in a new PSU.

I've never even heard of Tagan. Presumed it was one of those makes you see the likes of Maplin selling which would do more harm than good.

if doing a new build i personally wouldnt risk it, i wouldnt want anything new going with it if it breaks.
get new one
id either go for the silverstone or the evga

Tagan PSU were considered pretty high end back in the day.

Technically it should be fine, how much wear and tear it has will depend on how much it was used?

Most were made by Topower the oem who also made be quiet! (not sure if they still do), OCZ Modstream and Powerstream PSUs.

If you find out what the model name you might be able to fine a proper review.
