Can I run a infinity homehub 5 from a phone line extension?

Hi all,

So we had infinity installed last week. Unfortunately I wasn't home to talk to the engineer.

I've opened up the master socket and it appears the mk2 faceplate they've installed is simply a filter off the phone line which then provides a new port for the DSL connection to the homehub 5. While also repeating the phoneline to the normal socket.

We have a telephone extension from the master socket to another room. So my question is....If I remove this new faceplate from the master socket, should I just be able to plug this in another room and run the HH5 from there?

From my understanding it just looks like a filter? Which should technically work from any phone socket in the house.

You can use extension wiring. Doing as you describe should work, but you may find that it'll reduce your connection speed, probably by a significant margin. It'll depend on the type of cable the extension is using, and how well it was wired in the first place.

To do it properly you should leave the filtered faceplate where it is and connect the VDSL extension wiring to the dedicated terminals on the back of the faceplate.

The extension wiring should be good quality twisted pair, a pair from a Cat5e network cable for example.

The extension should only be used for the VDSL connection. If you need a phone point in the same location use a second pair in the cable and present it using a separate socket. There are separate terminals on the faceplate for the voice connection.
