That was the case until a few days ago. it has now been increased to 1000 posts and 6 months as far as I can remember.

You can definitely play BF3 at that res. I played the alpha and beta with my Q6600 and gtx275 with little trouble. Not installed the full game yet though so can't say how it might have changed since.

I play at 1920x1080 on high settings with I5 750 cpu, 1gb 5770gx 4gb RAM all at stock and runs fine.
