Can I run Linux within VM on my laptop?

Want to have a play around with Linux (Red Hat) at work, but don't think I'm going to be able to dual boot this work laptop - but I might be able to run it within a VM server running on here.

Question : is that possible, and how do I go about it?

Actually found what I think is the answer, using VM Player to run the Red Hat Enterprise VM image, both available free from the VM site.

Yep, that'll work a treat if you have sufficient RAM. 1+ GiB ought to be enough.

Just found an image of Solaris 10 with Veritas VM 5.0 bundled. Loving VM player!
